At approximately 5:48 PM, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to the 800 Block of S. Prairie Ave. for a report of a structure fire.
While responding, units were notified that heavy smoke was coming out of the home, and it was not known if the home was occupied.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue arrived on the scene to discover heavy smoke and fire from the first floor of a home converted to apartments. Crews entered the first-floor fighting heavy fire as they advanced to extinguish the fire completely in approximately 10 minutes. Crews completed searches of all levels of the structure to search for occupants and fire extension. One occupant was discovered in the basement and was escorted from the home uninjured. No other occupants were present in the structure. All residents have been displaced from the home due to damage to the structure.
Four fire trucks, 3 support vehicles, and 22 persons responded to the fire. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was aided in its efforts by: Metro Communications, PatientCare EMS, the Sioux Falls Police Department, the Red Cross, Xcel Energy, and Mid-American Energy.
There were no responder injuries during the incident, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
