SALEM, S.D. (KELO.com) – A 61-year-old Mitchell man has been identified as the person who died last week in a one-vehicle crash northwest of Salem.
A preliminary crash investigation indicates that a 2003 Toyota Tacoma pickup was northbound on 431st Avenue, went through the intersection of 247th Street and eventually rolled into the east ditch. Mark Tuton, who was the driver and lone occupant, was not wearing a seat belt. He was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials believe the crash happened either late on Thursday, March 4, or early on Friday, March 5.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
