SIOUX FALLS, S.D. ( KELO.com) — As the new year starts, winter may double down across the northern plains.
Dennis Todey, head of the Midwest Climate Hub (in Ames Iowa) says the outlooks show a more active trend developing.
Due to sudden shifts in the 6 to 10 and 8 to 14-day forecast, there are increases in the opportunities for precipitation to come through the central parts of the U.S.
Temperatures are being predicted to be warmer than average due to inclement storms forming in the Pacific, which will bring rain to the west and southwest of the country. Though these rains may appear as snow in the Northern Plains rain is just as likely, says Todey.
According to the Midwest Climate Hub, the main concern for the region is continued drought and the ground freezing any moisture in the next few months that won’t be soaking in.
