SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — No, KELO.com News has not ignored the rumor that Amazon is placing a fulfillment center in Sioux Falls.
Another local media entity says they are coming. They broke the story–if it is a story–yesterday.
Interestingly, none of the business or political leaders KELO.com News has spoken to can or will confirm that a potential new large employer is coming to the area.
The closest KELO.com News got to confirmation was from a business leader KELO.com News knows well. They said there would be a big announcement–about something–on August 20th. Meanwhile, they said they “could not confirm or deny” the rumors. KELO.com News’ source did say business leaders are working on some other “major announcements” for the Foundation Park, the alleged site of the purported Amazon facility.
KELO.com News has also learned that a number of the players who might ordinarily know about such a big project maybe be under a non-disclosure agreement. That means they can’t talk without legal repercussions.
And Amazon also won’t say if they are coming.
Kirsten Wenker, Amazon spokesperson, said in an email, “Amazon does not comment on rumors or speculation.” She told other local media the same thing. There are several news releases on Amazon’s corporate press site but nothing about the purported Sioux Falls distribution facility.
KELO.com News has tried to confirm the rumor with the Mayor’s Office.
“We can’t confirm anything regarding this project,” TenHaken spokeswoman BryAnn Becker Knecht emailed KELO.com News.
KELO.com News has also reached out to Governor Kristi Noem’s office. There’s been no response from her office yet.
Is one of the world’s largest companies coming to Sioux Falls or not? Stay tuned.
