SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — As the Fourth of July approaches, Authorities are reminding Sioux Falls residents which fireworks are allowed in the city, and which are not.
“The rule basically is if it flies in the air or makes a report, or loud bang, you cannot shoot it off in Sioux Falls,” Sioux Falls Fire Inspector John Wagner said. “Just use your judgment on that.”
Wagner said “snakes, sparklers, smoke bombs, the little cones that shoot sparks in the air” are generally allowed, but bottle rockets, firecrackers and Roman candles are not.
Wagner encouraged people to be safe, especially after the festivities are over.
“If you have a bucket of water, put the fireworks in the bucket of water to make sure they are totally extinguished because we do have fires where people put fresh fireworks in the trash can,” Wagner said.
A citation for misuse of fireworks comes with a $95 fine. Wagner said police will be on patrol during the holiday weekend.
