PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — Governor Kristi Noem is putting new pressure on two South Dakota tribes to remove highway checkpoints.
The State Attorney General has compiled the evidence.
“That investigation, while still ongoing, has produced affidavits and video recordings of these unlawful checkpoints that are in place.”
And Noem is sending that evidence to the White House, the Justice Department, and to South Dakota’s Congressional delegation, hoping the feds can do something about those checkpoints.
The Cheyenne River and Pine Ridge reservations simply refuse to take down the road checkpoints, saying they are only trying to protect residents from COVID-19.
The nationally publicized standoff has been going on for weeks now, ever since the Governor sent a letter to the tribes threatening legal action.
