SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken is pushing a proposed ordinance that would order bars, restaurants and other businesess to limit customers to under ten.
The mandate would replace what has been a voluntary limit on private business.
“That is certainly going to clear up a lot of the challenges we’re seeing by some of the businesses that aren’t wanting to operate in the fashion we have encouraged them to take,” says TenHaken.
If a business violates the mandate, it would be a class two misdemeanor.
The proposed ordinance first has to get through the Board of Health and then City Council. The Board of Health has scheduled a meeting for Thursday.
The South Dakota State Health Department reports that there is now “substantial” community spread of the coronavirus in Minnehaha County.
