SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls School District is keeping in touch with students and parents via email.
Community Relations Supervisor DeeAnn Konrad sent the following email yesterday, March 18:
Hello Sioux Falls School District Staff and Families – The current health situation has placed all of us in a position most never thought possible just one week ago.
Our goal during this national health concern is to minimize the risk for staff, students, and our community while optimizing alternate and remote learning methods.
While we do not believe remote learning is a superior delivery method to face-to-face interactions, we do believe it is an excellent option in the circumstance we find ourselves in today.
+ As you already know, Sioux Falls schools are closed through Friday, March 27, 2020. Remote learning for students will begin next week. On Monday, March 23, 2020, your child’s teacher will contact you to provide more details. If you do not hear from the teacher, please call the school office on Tuesday, March 24. (This is also a great time to update phone, email, address, and other information on file at the school if you’ve had a recent change!)
+ FREE breakfasts and lunches will continue at six school locations from 11:30-12:30 pm Monday through Friday next week. Those locations are: Laura B. Anderson, Hawthorne, Hayward, Anne Sullivan, Terry Redlin, and Lowell. Healthy children, ages 1 to 18, should come to the school, if possible, to receive the FREE grab-and-go meals.
+ Feeding South Dakota, with support from coronahelpsf.com and Helpline Center, will be distributing emergency boxes of food on Monday (3/23) and Thursday (3/26) from 6-7 pm (or until boxes are gone) at the following locations:
• Hayward Elementary – 400 N Valley View Rd (MariCar Community Center)
• Garfield Elementary – 2421 W 15th St (Oyate Community Center)
• Anne Sullivan Elementary – 3701 E 3rd St (Kenny Anderson Community Center)
• Oscar Howe Elementary – 2801 S Valley View Rd (Kuehn Community Center)
• First United Methodist Church – 401 S Spring Ave.
The distribution will take place in drive-thru fashion, first come first served, with each family receiving one emergency food box, a maximum of 2 boxes per vehicle.
+ Remember to check out the ungraded enrichment activities we’ve put together to keep students active and engaged at this link: https://www.smore.com/y3dx5
The District will continue to send updates to staff and families around 6:30 pm each night. Wishing your family good health.
