SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Schools Superintendant Brian Maher says there’s been no decision yet on closing the schools because of Covid-19, but he seems to be getting closer.
“I don’t have an absolute trigger that says that we’ll call it off, but my mind is far, far more open to closing school today than it was just even a few days ago.”
Maher is assuring parents and students that the district has an emergency plan in place if they need to use it. He says NO students have tested positive for the coronavirus.
The district is also working on remote learning programs online if the schools need to be closed.
“We are prepared for that eventuality. And we will be more prepared every day that we have, where we have school, and have the opportunity for more professional development of our staff.”
South Dakota’s largest school district has canceled all non-essential activities until further notice. This means no school dances or athletics or concerts inside school buildings. Such events draw crowds and that’s just what you don’t want when you are trying to slow the transmission of Covid-19.
