PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — Governor Kristi Noem has announced a budget deal that will give two percent increases to education, state workers, and to medical providers.
The deal with state legislative leaders also clears the way for legalized industrial hemp in South Dakota, giving Noem the funding she wanted.
“We will be fully funding the hemp program and standing it up the way I proposed it in my state budget address.” That means about $3.5 million for hemp control instead of lower amounts discussed by state lawmakers.
The Governor announced the budget deal on Monday, the last week of the state legislative session, flanked by state legislative leaders.
She says the deal was done, in part, because state revenues are coming in higher than projected.
