SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sen. Mike Rounds is telling South Dakotans not to buy masks for protection from the coronavirus.
“Wearing a mask, that doesn’t work,” Rounds said. “For people that are buying masks to protect themselves, all you’re doing is taking the masks away from other people who might need them.”
Masks don’t protect healthy people from getting the coronavirus, though they may help people who are sick from transmitting the disease to others. American health officials have urged healthy citizens not to use masks so there are enough for health care providers to use.
U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams sent out the call on Twitter last week, saying “Seriously people- STOP BUYING MASKS!”
