PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — South Dakota lawmakers are setting aside $5 million for a new health sciences building at the University of South Dakota
The state legislature’s Joint Appropriations Committee approved a bill freeing up the funds.
The building would be built on the current site of Julian Hall and bring together a number of health science majors scattered across the campus.
USD President Shiela Gestring said training students is a critical part of improving health care. She referenced Gov. Kristi Noem’s mantra that South Dakota is “open for business.”
“If you’re going to have a business, you have to have employees,” Gestring said.
Total cost for the project is expected to be about $22 million, with most of that raised privately.
