PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — Emergency First Responders from across South Dakota gathered at the State Capitol in Pierre yesterday in support of House Concurrent Resolution 6023.
It is a resolution supporting and encouraging a legislative summer study to look into and address the mental health needs facing first responders.
HCR6023 passed on a vote of 59 aye, 3 nay, and 6 excused.
Rep. Taffy Howard of Pennington County said she would vote ‘no’ because she opposes using a resolution to call for a legislative summer study.
She told the floor that she strongly supported First Responders and the need for mental health, just not the process used in HCR6023.
