SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A Sioux Falls electric company is receiving a grant to help women in construction.
Thompson Electric is getting money for special harnesses designed for women in an effort to bring in more women workers. Right now roughly 90 percent of construction workers are men.
Autodesk Construction Solutions and the Associated General Contractors of America are awarding the grants.
“We recognize the need for more women to join the construction industry to help fill the labor gap, and keeping them as safe as possible must be top priority,” Allison Scott, director at Autodesk Construction Solutions, said in a release. “For three hundred women in construction, AGC and Autodesk are highlighting this need, and this is a first step in drawing attention to the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other customized equipment for women.”
21 firms in total were selected as part of the grant program.
