SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Congressman Dusty Johnson says he can’t understand calls from some to remove the presidential faces from Mount Rushmore.
“The idea that we would remove the four faces from Mount Rushmore, absolutely repugnant to me,” Johnson said on Friday’s edition of The Greg Belfrage Show.
President Donald Trump is planning on visiting the monument on July 3 for Independence Day fireworks. Several Native American activists say they will protest the event. Some have called for the statue’s removal. Johnson called that “unbelievable.”
The congressman also gave his thoughts on police reform efforts in Washington. The House passed a Democratic reform bill Thursday. Senate Democrats stopped a Republican reform bill in the Senate this week.
“here’s a pretty decent chance we’re going to mess this up,” Johnson said. “And I think that would be a shame. I mean, clearly the vast majority of law enforcement officers are, are great cops and they’re the kind of people that we should celebrate and think there are absolutely some bad officers.”
