SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The CARE19 app, designed to aid health officials in tracing cases of the coronavirus, has yet to track a single asymptomatic carrier over two months after its release.
“It has not been part of our investigative process, so we have relied on our traditional tools,” state epidemiologist Josh Clayton said.
The app is designed to track the movements of asymptomatic people, so they can know where they’d been and who they’d come in contact with if they tested positive for the virus. Users need to have the app downloaded and turn on location services for it to work.
Roughly 19,000 people have downloaded the app as of Wednesday afternoon. That number was at about 18,000 a month ago.
