PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — A special task force is recommending that all high school sports in South Dakota start on time this fall.
“The goal for us is to get this season in and complete the season for the kids and to be able to do that safely,” says Executive Director Dan Swartos with the State High School Activities Association.
Swartos says it’s important to get the kids back in sports for both physical and emotional reasons.
The proposal is full of specifics. Individual school districts would decide how many fans, if any, will be allowed in the stands.
“Ranging from open attendance to having parents only or students only, or to have no fans at all,” explains Swartos.
There’s even a seating chart for team bus rides for contact tracing in case anyone aboard gets the coronavirus.
If the plan is approved by the SDHSAA Board on Wednesday, football practice could begin in August.
The full 17-page proposal is attached to this story. The task force was made up of high school and medical officials and other experts.
