SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — On her final night on the city council, Theresa Stehly was awarded the Public Service Recognition Award and a flag that flew above Carnegie Town Hall. The councilwoman who lost by less than 100 votes (97) thanked the more than 14,000 residents who voted to keep her in. But her departure didn’t happen without her throwing parting shots at some detractors, whom she said tried to smear her.
“Some members of the state party put out a smear campaign piece against me toward the end, mailed it to many Republicans and I have yet to find out who was behind it,” Stehly said.
Stehly went on to share many of her victories while being an elected official, also giving thanks to her fellow councilmen and Mayor Paul Tenhaken whom she said considered many of her suggestions and championed many of her causes.
Theresa Stehly will be replaced by Alex Jensen who she lost to in an attempt at re-election last month.
