Christmas isn’t over at the Great Plains Zoo! The Zoo will host its annual “Christmas with the Animals” event on Saturday, January 25 from 1 – 4 p.m.
After postponing the event due to extreme cold across the region, the Great Plains Zoo is excited to bring you a wonderful day of celebration and enrichment with our animals! During this event, visitors might see an Amur Tiger play with a Christmas tree of goodies in their exhibit, a Brown Bear open presents filled with fruits and vegetables, or a Macaques feast on special Christmas treats from their very own Christmas wreath. “Christmas with the Animals” is part of the Great Plains Zoo’s ongoing animal enrichment efforts, encouraging animals’ natural behaviors such as foraging, scent marking, and hunting. Gifts are delivered to the animals throughout the afternoon, with openings and Zookeeper Chats every half hour, allowing you to enjoy a unique experience with our animals and learn more about how we work to continually enrich the lives of all the animals that are a part of our family. We invite you to come share an extra special day of Christmas fun, education, and excitement!
“Enrichment is a top priority for our Zookeepers every day,” said Elizabeth A. Whealy, President and CEO of the Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History. “Christmas with the Animals provides valuable enrichment for animals, and it helps our guests understand how we care for our animals.”
The Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., with the last admission at 4 p.m. each day.
