SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A mentoring program for Sioux Falls teachers is working well, according to a new report.
The national retention rate for new teachers is about 60% over five years. In Sioux Falls, that number is at 74%.
Over 100 teachers are participating in the mentoring program this year, which pairs new teachers up with experienced ones for their first two years on the job.
“Kudos to everyone in the district for helping retain those teachers,” School Board President Cynthia Mickelson said at Monday night’s meeting. “That’s tremendous cost savings for our district in not having to train additional teachers.”
