PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — Influenza activity continues to rise across South Dakota.
Dr. Joshua Clayton of the State Health Department says we’re at a high level of activity, considered a widespread transmission across the state.
“At this point, we’ve had over 11-hundred lab-confirmed cases, 37 hospitalizations, and no deaths,” says Dr. Clayton.
He says the majority of the flu cases being seen are the Influenza-B strain, a less severe strain with fewer hospitalizations and deaths than Influenza-A strain.
Dt. Clayton says the zero flu-related deaths in South Dakota is not likely to hold through the winter and flu cases are likely to reach their peak next month.
There have been no reports of vaccine shortages.
