Preview: No. 4 Huron (11-3) is currently 3rd in the SDHSAA points standings that will determine seeding in the postseason. The Tigers have won three consecutive games and five of their last six, and tout a pair of returning all-state players in senior forwards Kobe Busch (first team) and Teegan Evers (second team).
The No. 2 Lynx (10-4) are currently 5th in the points standings despite losing a pair of All-State first team players in Carter Olthoff and Evan Talcott from last year’s state championship team.
A pair of potential All-Staters are pacing BV this season — 6’9 senior center Gavin Terhark and 6’4 junior forward Jackson Hilton, who hit three mammoth shots in the fourth quarter of the 2019 state title game.
The girls game pits a pair of struggling young teams jockeying for a home game in the “SoDak 16” round, which will determine the eight participants in the state tournament.
Brandon Valley (6-8) — which lost most of its production from last season’s state championship team and is led by first-year coach Mike Zerr after Mark Stadem retired from basketball coaching — sits at No. 9, one spot ahead of Huron (7-7, 10th) in the points standings. A No. 8 placement is required for a home SoDak 16 game. Aberdeen Central currently sits in that spot.
