SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The City of Sioux Falls broke ground on its newest fire station for the southeast area of the city. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, today’s groundbreaking audience participated virtually via live video on the City’s Facebook page.

“Sioux Falls Fire Rescue is committed to meeting the growing needs of our growing city,” said Brad Goodroad, Sioux Falls Fire Chief. “Fire Station 12 will meet the emerging needs of southeast Sioux Falls and prepare that area for future growth for the decades ahead.”
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue is proud of its ISO Class 1 rating and Accreditation by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was presented its ISO Class 1 designation in November 2015 and recently reaccredited in March 2019.
Only 94 fire rescue departments in the United States currently hold both achievements. This designation is only given to fire departments in the United States that meet the highest standards of response capabilities. Key to accreditation is response time on calls for service. The new fire station will prepare the quickly growing southeast part of Sioux Falls for future growth and improve current response times for the area.
Sioux Falls currently has 11 fire stations. The newest fire station began operations in 2014 in the northwest area of Sioux Falls.
