Spring college football activities are already cancelled across the country as colleges have reamined closed.
On Wednesday, South Dakota State coach John Stiegelmeier told KWSN some early-season non-conference games might be cancelled, as well.
Speaking before he learned the news that South Dakota’s projected peak of coronavirus cases may not occur until July or August, Stiegelmeier said he expects all NCAA programs to be in dormancy for at least another couple months, with no team meetings, strength and conditioning workouts, or organized team drills allowed.
There is a possibility of 10 organized practices — without pads, hitting, and tackling — at some point in the summer before the early August start of fall camp ahead of the first scheduled regular season games.
But that is all pending on schools in every state being open.
Stiegelmeier said the American Football Coaches Association will dictate when all Football Championship Subdivision programs at SDSU’s level can start team activities again.
If there are schools opened back up in South Dakota but not in Ohio, there will be no football activities, including meetings, for any team.
The 24th-year head coach has been working at home the last few days, an admittedly difficult transition, although he said he is allowed into the team facilities for limited hours every week, pending clearance.
