WATERTOWN, S.D.—Vaping cartridges continue to make the news both regionally and nationally.
This week, authorities in Anoka County, Minnesota seized 75,000 cartridges that investigators believe came from out of state for distribution.
Earlier this month, two men were arrested in Watertown after a search warrant uncovered 200 TCH-laden cartridges and more than $4,500 cash. THC is the component of marijuana that gives a high.
Lung illnesses tied to vaping have become a major health concern in recent months, with at least nine deaths reported nationally.
Some South Dakota school districts, including Dell Rapids and Mitchell, have installed vaping sensors in bathrooms that tip-off school officials when students are vaping.
Watertown school officials say sensors are not in the plans at Watertown High School.
Two portable vaping sensors were installed in bathrooms at Mitchell High School.
They cost $900 apiece. When the sensors detect vaping chemicals are present, it sends a text message to school officials letting them know.
