SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — With the first Democratic challenger to Sen. Mike Rounds’ seat officially in the race, the Republican is calling for support from his base.
A fundraising email sent out Thursday said “the general election race has officially started.”
Former state lawmaker Dan Ahlers filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission Wednesday to enter the race.
The email criticized Democrats in general terms and urged voters to “protect our slim majority in the Senate” and “help save America.”
Rounds defeated his Democratic challenger by about 20 percentage points when he won his seat in 2014.
