DELL RAPIDS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Republican Mike Rounds first Democrat Challenger for the U.S. Senate is talking confidently about his chances in 2020.
Any Democrat would have a tough time against Rounds in deep-red South Dakota, but former State Lawmaker Dan Ahlers of Dell Rapids says he’s exceeded expectations in the past.
“I’ve been told a lot of times that this isn’t going to work. You’re not good enough. You’re not smart enough. And more often than not, I’ve proven those folks wrong.”
And, Ahlers says, he’s not your typical Democrat.
“I’m a small business owner that has to be fiscally responsible. Otherwise, you don’t own a business for 20 years.”
Ahlers says South Dakotans deserve better leadership in Washington on a variety of issues, including education, trade, and healthcare.
He will formally announce his candidacy on Monday, September 30, 10 a.m., at Papa’s Pub and Eatery in Dell Rapids.
