SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO.com) — Mike Rounds has a challenger in next November’s Senate race. Democrat Dan Ahlers is running for U.S. Senate in South Dakota.
Ahlers’ committee filed papers with the Federal Election Commission Wednesday.
Ahlers has served in both houses of the state legislature, representing the state’s 25th district. He narrowly missed out on reelection to his House seat by 98 votes this past November.
A small business owner who lives in Dell Rapids, Ahlers received his bachelor’s degree from Augustana University in Sioux Falls.
Ahlers will face an uphill battle if he makes it to the general election. Rounds finished over 20 points ahead of his Democratic challenger when he won the seat in 2014. Rounds’ committee for reelection spent over $300,000 in the first half of 2019.
