ST. PAUL, MN. (KELO.com) — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has proposed ‘Clean Cars Minnesota’, a new initiative to help fight climate change.
“As I’ve traveled across this state, I’ve heard from countless Minnesotans who want to do their part in battling climate change and want the options and tools to do so.”
His plan includes fuel-efficiency standards stricter than the federal standards, aimed at getting more electric and low-emissions cars in Minnesota.
Walz may be putting himself on a collision course with the Trump Administration which is already tussling with California over similar fuel standards.
But the Governor doesn’t want to wait for Washington.
“It’s pretty obvious today amid all the chaos in the national news that we can’t count on Washington to lead, so Minnesota needs too.”
Some state Republicans are already blasting the plan.
