SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The City of Sioux Falls holds what it calls a “community conversation” about opioids today, September 25.
The event runs from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Washington Pavilion.
Besides various presentations, there will be a discussion on combating opioids.

What: The Sioux Falls Health Department is hosting a community conversation about opioids, with national and local experts providing their insights about the impacts of opioids. A morning session features a nationally-known author and a local panel. The luncheon provides a look at policy approaches to combatting opioids.

Why: Sioux Falls is not immune to the devastation of opioid addiction. Individuals here are suffering from mental illness as well as addiction to drugs or alcohol. Although opioid use is not at an epidemic level seen in other communities, the Sioux Falls Health Department wants to foster conversation to better protect our residents. Working together with community partners, the goal is to end the stigma and bring the community together because we know mental health and addiction can impact anyone, anywhere, even here.
