PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Pierre Police Department is continuing to investigate a series of spray tag vandalism officers discovered Thursday morning.
Captain Byran Walz with the Pierre Police Department says officers discovered 21 instances of what’s known as “tagging” or leaving a spray paint sign that the offender was at the location in question.
Most of the tagged structures are west of the S-Curve where railroad tracks cross over Sioux Avenue between Capitol and Missouri Avenues.
Tagging has been known to be used by gangs to identify their territory, but Walz says authorities can’t say if the tagging found in Pierre is related to any nefarious group.
The case remains open and no arrests have been made. Those with information on the taggings are encouraged to contact Pierre Police. Authorities also say if you believe your property has been tagged or vandalized to contact them at 605-773-7410.
