SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Rising concerns about teen vaping and about the growing opioid crisis have triggered two special gatherings in Sioux Falls.
First up is the ‘Even Here’ conference on the drug epidemic at the Washington Pavilion the morning of September 25. Mayor Paul TenHaken is inviting the entire community.
“This event features the perspectives of local, state, and national experts as we explore how to help our family members and friends find the resources and support they need.”
Then on the evening of September 30, the Sioux Falls School District will hold a town hall meeting on vaping.
“We don’t have concrete numbers on how many kids are using it, but we do know it is an issue within our Sioux Falls School District. There have been paraphernalia that has been confiscated,” says the District’s Carly Uthe.
Uthe encourages all parents to bring their kids to the town hall at the Instructional Learning Center. They’ll learn about the dangers of vaping and what’s been happening in the schools.
Hundreds of people nationwide have either been sickened or have died in cases related to vaping. At least two cases of vaping-related illness have been reported in South Dakota.
