PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.COM) — Governor Kristi Noem says the storms that have struck South Dakota this year are the “largest natural disaster” the state has ever seen.
Noem posted a Facebook video Tuesday stating “This year, South Dakota has experienced the largest natural disaster our state has ever seen. I’d like to take a few moments this evening to give you an update on some of the extreme weather and how the State is responding.”
Noem answered the “most asked questions” about the storms including that she will request yet another Federal Disaster Declaration from the President.
She also said she does not see the need for a Special Session by the Legislature, but if that changes “I will be the first one to inform the public and the legislature.”
Federal disasters have been declared in 58 of 66 counties and on three reservations in South Dakota so far this year.
