PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — The first permanent security screening system is being installed at the State Capitol building in Pierre.
Public Safety Director Craig Price says its part of an ongoing effort.
“Over the past years, the Department of Public Safety and the Bureau of Administration have taken proactive steps to protect the State Capitol and the people who use it.”
They hope to have the security checkpoint operating in time for the 2020 State Legislature. The screening room will be constructed near the north entrance. All visitors to the building will have to go through it.
Details of how the security screening will work – will it be similar to airport screening, for example – are expected in the coming weeks.
Price says everyone is still welcome at the State Capitol; this new system will only make the experience safer.
