SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Construction season is coming to an end, and Sioux Falls officials are taking stock.
Public works director Mark Cotter helped put on an annual bus tour Tuesday showing city officials what workers have been up to.
“Some people are just fine with reading it out of a book,” Cotter said. “This gives those that are visual learners a chance to see it firsthand.”
The ongoing 26th Street project and getting Veterans Parkway hooked up with I-90 were among the top items on the tour.
Keeping up with Sioux Falls’ growth is always a challenge, according to Cotter.
“Our city matures about 400 acres a year, and when you start to compound that over a number of years, that’s a lot of growth,” Cotter said. “So it’s important to stay ahead of it.”
Cotter says the next big project on the horizon for Sioux Falls could be the expansion of the city’s water treatment plant.
Cotter called the potential expansion “one of those real transformational projects that allows our city to continue to grow and prosper.”
Cotter says he’s thinking of putting on another bus tour in the spring as a sort of preview for 2020 projects.
