STURGIS, S.D. (KELO.com) – Authorities in Sturgis have identified the man shot and killed after he reportedly broke into a home early Sunday morning.
Sturgis Police Chief Geody VanDewater says an autopsy is pending on 32-year-old Matthew Flagler.
Flagler was shot once in the chest after breaking into a home in north Sturgis just before 4:30 Sunday morning.
First aid was administered until he was transported by ambulance to Sturgis Regional Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
VanDewater says no charges have been filed against the homeowner as of yet, and it remains an active investigation.
VanDewater stressed this is an isolated incident and there is not a threat to the public.
