PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — Influenza activity has been “sporadic” this past week, says the South Dakota Department of Health.
Seven new confirmed cases of influenza were reported last week (Codington, Grant, Minnehaha, & Potter Counties). 19 confirmed cases cumulative so far this season: Nine Influenza A and ten B. *Lab confirmed: PCR, culture or DFA. The number of laboratories using rapid confirmatory tests has increased, which may account for some of the increase in confirmed cases observed this influenza season.
Rapid antigen tests are to said be at 2.83% statewide (five positives out of 212 individuals tested last week). A total of 1,339 tests performed so far this season.
Zero new influenza-associated hospitalizations were reported last week. Total of two hospitalizations so far this season. Zero influenza-associated deaths were reported last week. Zero deaths reported so far this season, with about 0.80% of clinic visits being influenza-related, 39.7% of visits were children 4 years of age and younger.
