WASHINGTON, D.C. (KELO.com) — Congressman Dusty Johnson (R-SD) is just back from his first trip to Israel.
He met with top Israeli officials, but also with ‘just folks’.
“In a hookah lounge, in one instance, I sat down with a couple of Beduin gentlemen,” Congressman Johnson says he met with everyday Jews, Christians, and Muslims, to try to get a better handle on the challenges for Middleast peace.
One of the highlights of the trip was when Johnson was able to walk around inside a tunnel that Hezbollah terrorists used to infiltrate Israel from Lebanon. He says it was very sophisticated.
“They had sophisticated HVAC air-handling systems, they were all wired for electricity, there were concrete footings..”
Johnson toured Israel extensively from Jerusalem to the Golan Heights and met with many leaders, including former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert
The congressman says he left the Middle East, believing that peace between Israel and the Palestinians may take years, but is attainable.
