SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — No injuries during an overnight fire at a three-story apartment building in Sioux Falls.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at 4229 East 12th Street at 3:30 Thursday morning.
With a Wind Chill Warning in effect, occupants were immediately moved to warming vehicles with the neighboring apartment building also used as a temporary refuge.
There was moderate smoke on the basement floor of the three-story apartment building and a small fire in the basement hallway of the building.
The fire was quickly extinguished with a fire extinguisher and no injuries were reported.
The fire was confined to the area of origin and little smoke damage occurred to the building.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota: At approximately 3:30 a.m. on Thursday February 13, 2020, Metro Communications received information of a structure fire at 4229 E 12th St. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene. Sioux Falls Police arrived on scene and started aiding occupants that were evacuating the building.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue’s first arriving fire truck found moderate smoke on the basement floor of a three story apartment building. They located a small fire in the basement hallway of the building. The fire was quickly extinguished with a fire extinguisher. Additional crews assisted with removing the smoke from the structure and aided removing occupants from the building. The area was under a wind chill warning so occupants were immediately moved to warming vehicles with the neighboring apartment building also established as a temporary place of refuge.
There were no injuries reported for either occupants or first responders. Crews were able to remove all of the smoke from the building and occupants were allowed back into their apartments within ten minutes of emergency crews arriving on scene. The fire was confined to the area of origin and little smoke damage occurred to the building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with four fire trucks, two support vehicles, and 18 personnel. SFFR was assisted on scene by Metro Communications, Sioux Falls Police Department, and Patient Care EMS.
