SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The KELO.com News Team voted the Thanksgiving weekend plane crash near Chamberlain killing nine people as the seventh most impactful story of 2019.
The weather conditions around Chamberlain were bad–wind, snow, a near blizzard.
The extended and prominent Hansen family from Idaho Falls, Idaho had flown out the day before to do some pheasant hunting.
Before takeoff, according to the National Transportation Safety Board, the pilot and a passenger spent three hours trying to get the snow and ice of the single-engine Pilatus PC12.
The NTSB says the plane took off, achieved an altitude of 460 feet, and crashed.
And with it died four generations of the Hanson family with three more injured.
