OMAHA, Neb. (KELO.com) — A recent survey of business managers in the nine-state Mid America region found the possibility of an economic contraction in the next six months.
Ernie Goss, an economics professor at Creighton University in Omaha, says getting a trade agreement with China would be a big boost.
Goss says Congress is sitting on another beneficial trade deal, the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, the replacement for NAFTA.
Goss says the region still needs more skilled workers.
Unemployment is low in most of those states and there are thousands of open jobs.
