SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Who says politicians can’t agree on anything?
A version of a bill targeting robocalls sponsored by Sen. John Thune passed the House of Representatives by a near-unanimous margin on Wednesday.
“In today’s political climate, it’s hard to find an issue on which almost everyone can agree, but we found one,” Thune said in a release. “With House passage of our bipartisan, bicameral legislation to protect consumers from pesky and sometimes financially harmful robocalls, we are one step closer to getting this legislation to the president’s desk.”
The bill requires phone companies to make call-blocking free, while also giving more power to the Federal Communications Commission and the Justice Department to crack down on robocallers.
The House approved the bill 417-3. A version of the bill is expected to pass in the Senate.
