FORT PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — A 30-year-old Rapid City man has been sentenced to two years in the South Dakota State Penitentiary for attempting to evade law enforcement while driving drunk in Stanley County.
States Attorney Tom Maher says Circuit Judge Christina Klinger sentenced Daniel True Blood on the charges of aggravated eluding, speeding and driving under the influence.
True Blood was arrested April 19 after a domestic incident that started in Lyman County. True Blood left a residence in Presho with a 20-month-old girl in the back seat. He was clocked on radar by law enforcement driving 125 miles an hour in a 70 mile an hour zone on US Highway 83 on his way toward Fort Pierre.
The pursuit was ended just before entering Fort Pierre. As the True Blood entered Fort Pierre, he attempted to pass two northbound pick-ups towing campers. True Blood’s vehicle also struck a Jeep in a turn lane that was attempting to turn east. The female driver of the Jeep was not injured.
In addition to the prison term, True Blood was ordered by Klinger to pay just over $1,600 in restitution for damage to a victim’s vehicle and his driver’s license will be revoked for one year following his release from custody. True Blood was also ordered to abide by a number of additional conditions.
The 20-month-old child was not injured in the original incident.
