FARGO, N.D. (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls Canaries lost a heartbreaker Friday night. The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks pulled out an 11-10 comeback win at Newman Outdoor Field.
The Birds (34-49) led 9-2 midway through the sixth inning, but a string of nine unanswered runs from the RedHawks (55-29) made the difference.
Graham Low and Burt Reynolds both homered in the loss, the middle game of a three-game series.
Sioux Falls trailed 2-1 after four, but exploded for five runs in the fifth. Mike Hart started the inning with a leadoff triple, and Burt Reynolds drove him in with an RBI double to tie the game.
A pair of singles put Jordan Ebert on third and Graham Low on first. Shortly after, RedHawks starter Sebastian Kessay made a wild pickoff throw to first base, allowing Ebert to score the go-ahead run. A pair of walks loaded the bases, and Kessay left the game in favor of Taylor Bloye.
That brought up Kevin Taylor, who hit a ground ball under the glove of RedHawks first baseman Correlle Prime. Two runs scored on the error to give the Birds a 5-2 lead. A wild pitch from Bloye made it 6-2 after five.
The Birds added three in the sixth on a pair of homers. Reynold’s blast, his tenth of the year, made it 7-2 Birds. Low hit a two-run shot a couple of batters later, his fourth of the season. That put Sioux Falls up seven.
Fargo began the comeback in the sixth. Chris Jacobs hit a two-run homer to make it 9-4.
Birds starter Tyler Herron allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings of work, walking two and striking out four.
The RedHawks plated three off Connor Leedholm to make it 9-7 after seven. Tim Colwell, Prime, and T. J. Bennett all drove in runs.
Jacobs delivered the deciding blow in the eighth inning, a bases-clearing double to give the RedHawks a 10-9 edge. An RBI single from Prime one batter later gave the RedHawks an important insurance run.
Alay Lago broke out of an 0-for-22 slump with an RBI double in the ninth but was stranded on second.
