2020-21 Sioux Falls City Council.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Tuesday night saw quite the turn out as concerned residents spoke in favor of preserving the historic Tuthill House instead of going through with the proposed demolition set forth by Sioux Falls Parks Operation Manager Kelby Mieras.
Tuesdays city council meeting had no shortage of residents from the Tuthill Park and surrounding area share their fondest memories of the now repurposed farmhouse.
“To us, this decision to demolish this historic home seems very extreme and very rushed and concerns many of us in the neighborhood. That the desires of a few adjacent properties have prompted the city’s involvement in this issue. Whether this is true or not, there is still not a sound reason for the removal of this house,” said a resident who has lived adjacent to Tuthill Park since 1969.
But sentiments to save the Tuthill House was not shared by others who share a view of it. A resident who described herself as a representative to those who border the venue and support its removal called the home a burden on the city, while also referring to the $150,000-$250,000 estimate to repair it and its limited usability.
In the end, the city council voted to remove the house from a surplus resolution that would have led to its demolition also deferring the issue for another 90 days.
Days the council agreed should give those who indeed want to save the home time to construct a plan to repair it.
