SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) –A Sioux Falls man was attacked near the 3500 block of South Marion Road after arranging to meet up with an individual to sell a pair of sneakers.
Authorities say the 22-year-old victim had been attacked by the potential buyer and two other men while trying to steal his wallet.
The victim and a friend he brought along fled to an apartment building, but not after retrieving the wallet from the ground and another set of unknown keys, according to Sgt. Aaron Benson.
The keys would later be discovered to belong to the suspect Thomas Quaye, age 24, who police say followed the two in attempts to retrieve his keys.
Police would be called when a second altercation between the two broke out, this time the suspect attacking the victim with a 2×4.
A female resident of the building was able to help the victim by taking the 2×4 from the attacker.
Quaye has been charged with Aggravated Assault, First-degree burglary, Robbery in the First Degree, and False Impersonation after giving an arresting officer a false name when originally questioned.
The victim did not go to the hospital for the injuries sustained during the attacks.
