DES MOINES, I.A. (KELO.com) — Iowa has officially been added to the list of states with confirmed cases of cyclospora infection.
Exposure has happened at Taco Bell restaurants and with iceberg lettuce sold in Walmart stores under the Marketside-brand.
Those who are infected typically suffer intense diarrhea, nausea, fatigue and stomach pains.
If not treated, the illness can lead to dehydration and severe complications that may require higher levels of care.
Symptoms can last from a few days up to a month or longer.
Immunocompromised persons may experience more severe illness of longer duration along with complications requiring close medical attention.
