SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Two elderly Sioux Falls men were bilked out of money in a “you’ve won the lottery” scam.
Sioux Falls Police say the first man, aged 94, lost $66,000 through a wire transfer out of the country.
They say he was told he needed to pay taxes and fees on a non-existent $18 million jackpot.
The other man, aged 71, lost $1,500 in gift cards and mail order check.
Neither man entered a lottery.
Authorities say the phone calls may have come from different scammers.
Police say if something is too good to be true, it probably is.
