CANTON, SD (KELO.com) — It’s a memorial that’s intended to honor military veterans, so veterans are wondering why they weren’t consulted. The Lincoln County Commission has approved a scaled down version of a veterans memorial at the new Justice Center. Retired Army Reserve Master Sergeant Linda Montgomery was among the veterans who spoke on the issue before the commission. She told Commission members, “Veterans memorial is about the veterans, and the veterans weren’t allowed any decision in this design, or choice of designs, that would make this a veterans project.” The commission voted to approve construction of the memorial, at a cost of about $235-thousand.
