Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.)
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The four Republican party candidates for Governor have one more planned debate. The Dakota Scout/Forum Communications debate is set for April 27th at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls. We’re featuring the gubernatorial candidates on KELO-AM 1320 this week, focusing on some of their main talking points. Congressman Dusty Johnson is working to distinguish himself from the field in the areas of property taxes and hyper scale data centers. He says action by the legislature and the governor this year chased a center that was proposed for Deuel County across the state line into Minnesota. “They’re going to go just across the line. They’ll use the same water system, the same electric grid, but they’re going to send their taxes to another state capitol.”
Johnson has developed what he calls the “Data Centers Done Right Initiative” to encourage companies to build in South Dakota if they can show they won’t create problems like higher electric rates and massive water consumption.
